Dr. Kathryn Ryan is a residency-trained veterinary anesthesiologist passionate about ensuring safe, effective, and compassionate anesthesia and pain management for every patient. She joins the Overland Park and Mission Veterinary Emergency & Specialty surgery and anesthesia teams, with specialized training in advanced anesthetic techniques and a strong foundation in patient advocacy during critical procedures.
Dr. Ryan earned both her Bachelor of Science in Biology and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Kansas State University. Following graduation in 2021, she completed a competitive small animal rotating internship at Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. She then returned to Kansas State to pursue a residency in Comparative Anesthesia and Analgesia, where she developed her expertise in anesthesia for complex surgical and emergency cases.
Her clinical interests include locoregional anesthesia, anesthetic management of patients with upper airway disease, and anesthesia for acute trauma cases. She has contributed to ongoing research and remains committed to advancements in veterinary anesthesia and analgesia.
From a young age, Dr. Ryan knew she wanted to become a veterinarian. Her early love for animals and science evolved into a passion for veterinary medicine and anesthesia, a field where she can be the voice for animals at their most vulnerable, ensuring their comfort, safety, and well-being during surgery and diagnostics.
Outside of the hospital, Dr. Ryan enjoys staying active through hiking, indoor rock climbing, and hitting the gym with her partner, Seth, and their dog, Huey. She also loves exploring new restaurants around Kansas City.
